Eurostar, the high-speed train service that operates between the UK and Europe, has announced the temporary suspension of its direct service from Amsterdam to London for a period of six months, commencing in June of the coming year. This decision has been attributed to planned renovations at Amsterdam Centraal Station, the departure point for the Eurostar to London.
According to Carola Belderbos, a spokesperson for the Dutch national railway company, the terminal at Amsterdam Centraal Station – where passengers undergo security and passport control before boarding the Eurostar to London – will be inaccessible during this time. The existing terminal, with a capacity for approximately 250 people, is being replaced by a larger facility located elsewhere within the station. However, the construction of the new terminal is not expected to conclude until January 2025.
This announcement has been met with disappointment by many travellers who have appreciated the convenience of the direct train service between Amsterdam and London. Nevertheless, Eurostar has reassured passengers that alternative options will be provided during the suspension period.
