The Minister of Sports, Amélie Oudéa-Castera, announced on France 2 that Russian athletes at the 2024 Paris Olympics will be subject to the rules of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), regardless of Vladimir Putin’s opinions.

In response to Putin’s criticism of the IOC potentially undermining the Olympic movement by requiring Russian and Belarusian athletes to participate under a neutral flag, Oudéa-Castera firmly stated that the IOC holds the authority to decide participation and uphold the rules, aiming to prevent the Russian government from using the Olympics for its own agenda.

The minister also dismissed Putin’s remarks regarding ethnic discrimination as “nonsense” and “provocative messages.”

The IOC had granted permission for Russian athletes to compete in the Paris 2024 Olympics in December, subject to conditions such as competing under a neutral flag, no support for the Russian offensive in Ukraine, and meeting the qualification criteria.

Oudéa-Castera affirmed that the Russian flag would not be allowed on the field of play during events.
