Hoopin’ with Bieber: My Experience Playing Basketball with Justin

On a regular day in Los Angeles, I attended an exclusive sports collaboration event called The League at SRGN Studios. This event was more than just a typical pickup game; it featured high-end fashion brands and notable local players, and I even found myself on a team with none other than Justin Bieber himself. Bieber, known for his music career, also showcased his basketball skills on the court.

Playing on team Nahmias, we faced off against team Surgeon, led by Dominic “The Shoe Surgeon” Ciambrone and former Drew League champion Dominique Johnson. Despite our 110-102 loss, Bieber impressed with his adept ball-handling and scored 13 points.

The League, organized by commissioner Ron Abaekobe, brought together players from the NBA, the G League, and the Big3 for a unique post-pandemic open run. This event provided players with an opportunity to display their talent and establish connections with high-end brands.

Among the star-studded attendees were celebrities like Floyd Mayweather and Future, but Bieber’s genuine enthusiasm for The League was notable. He actively participated in five games and accumulated a total of 32 points throughout the season.

What stood out the most was Bieber’s seamless integration with the team. He demonstrated genuine interest in the game, engaging with teammates and showing a competitive spirit on the court. Despite his global fame, Bieber’s commitment to basketball was evident.

Bieber’s involvement in The League added an intimate touch for fans and players alike. It provided a unique and inclusive space for everyone involved, showcasing the joy and camaraderie that can be found in the simple act of playing basketball with a team, even for a global superstar like Bieber.
