In 2023, France has seen a blossoming of events celebrating Arab culture, enriching the country’s cultural life. From symposiums and meetings at the Arab World Institute (IMA) to private initiatives at the Palais d’Iéna and Beaugrenelle cinema, France has been filled with highlights showcasing the beauty and diversity of Arab culture.

Underneath the Eiffel Tower, the IMA hosted the “Scents of the Orient” exhibition, transporting visitors through the fragrant history of the Orient. From Muscat to Cairo, Tunis to Jeddah, the exhibit showcased over two hundred works, delving into the history of perfumes, oils, and the role of fragrances in daily life and celebrations. The air was filled with the intoxicating scents of history and culture.

In a celebration of creative talents from the Arab world, the IMA launched its prestigious design award, recognizing emerging talent and entrepreneurial creativity. The institute’s dedication to honouring Arab designers through these awards is a testament to the vivacious creativity of the Arab world.

The IMA also dedicated an entire exhibition to “What Palestine Brings to the World”, showcasing the artistic and cultural creativity of Palestine. The six-month-long event transformed the IMA, immersing visitors in the vibrant culture of Palestine through exhibitions, performances, and literary events.

The IMA also put Arab cinema in the spotlight, with the Saudi Cinema Night captivating the audience with works by young Saudi directors. This cultural bridge between France and Saudi Arabia showcased the best of Saudi cinema, bringing the two countries closer through the art of storytelling.

Paris was not just a city of romance and art, but also a hub for the Festival of Lebanese Film, offering hope and connection through the power of cinema. The festival brought together industry professionals and enthusiasts, creating space for dialogue and understanding.

The Menart Fair at the Palais d’Iéna presented the best of modern and contemporary art from the Middle East and North Africa, inviting visitors to explore a dynamic and diverse artistic scene. This unique initiative shed light on the artistic fertility and originality of the MENA region.

Cooperation between France and Saudi Arabia has flourished, opening doors for cultural exchange and influence. The implementation of Vision 2030 has paved the way for exciting prospects of cooperation in major projects and the continued strengthening of collaborative efforts.

As the fragrance of Arab culture continues to permeate the air of Paris, the City of Light is illuminated by the vibrant tapestries of art, history, and creativity.
