Let’s delve into the world of public order offices in Berlin. It appears that the Neukölln and Reinickendorf public order offices have been given the green light to join the BOS digital radio network. What does this signify? It means that they can now engage in seamless communication with the Berlin police, the Senate Department for Economic Affairs, Energy and Enterprises, the tax investigation department, and customs at an entirely new level.
This development has been in the making for quite some time. The public order offices were established in 2004 to assist the Berlin police by taking on specific duties. Nevertheless, it is only recently that they have been granted permission to integrate into the BOS digital radio network.
This achievement has been made possible thanks to the BOS digital radio guidelines, which were introduced last year. After a confirmation in June 2022, the two pioneering offices are now set to embark on utilizing the network.
The entire process took approximately 16 months, with support from various organizations. But why is this integration so significant? Well, the public order offices bear a multitude of responsibilities, ranging from safeguarding young people and non-smokers to ensuring compliance with regulations in parks, noise protection, food inspections, animal protection, and much more.
In fact, they play a pivotal role in major events such as the Carnival of Cultures, the Berlin Marathon, and the forthcoming European Football Championship. Thus, having access to the BOS digital radio network will be instrumental in orchestrating these operations.
For instance, the Neukölln public order office boasts a state-of-the-art control center for major events, along with a compact van equipped with a workstation and a fixed radio. This setup enables them to avert any disruptions during mobile operations, as seen on May 1st.
However, the significance of the BOS digital radio network is not confined to coordinating major events. The public order offices also collaborate closely with other governmental departments in what they term as “joint operations.” Together, they carry out trade controls, youth and non-smoker protection checks, money laundering investigations, tax inquiries, and other crucial tasks. This necessitates meticulous coordination, especially when they are out in the field.
Therefore, the BOS digital radio network is not merely a cutting-edge tool, but an indispensable one for the public order offices to carry out their duties efficiently. Whether it involves coordinating joint operations or responding to emergencies, access to this network will have a substantial impact on upholding the safety and orderly conduct of the city.
