Exploring London: A Day of Engaging Meetings and New Experiences

As the winter season descends upon London, our anticipation was not dampened by the chilly weather as we embarked on a day filled with intriguing meetings and experiences within the city.

Our first destination led us to the Headquarters of the British Council, where we engaged in a warm and insightful conversation with the Director of the English Program. Despite the somber weather, the pleasant office atmosphere made our visit thoroughly enjoyable.

Subsequently, we made our way to the heart of London to meet Fiona Bruce, the Prime Ministry’s Special Envoy on FoRB, at the Government Office. Following stringent security measures, we engaged in a casual yet pleasant conversation with Fiona, who displayed a keen interest in understanding the religious landscape in Indonesia.

Coincidentally, prior to our departure for the UK, I had the privilege of meeting Bea ten Tusscher, the Dutch Special Envoy on FoRB, in Jakarta. Both women are exceptional individuals dedicated to addressing FoRB issues. Fiona, a senior politician and member of the British parliament, and Bea, a senior diplomat from the Netherlands with experience as an ambassador in various countries, have a pre-existing acquaintance.

Our conversation with Fiona exceeded the scheduled time, prompting us to swiftly traverse the 700 meters to the Parliament building for the subsequent event. Within the grand and imposing House of Parliament, an interfaith dialogue transpired, during which I had the opportunity to address the delegation from Indonesia. To my surprise, the Ambassador was also in attendance and actively engaged me in conversation in the Sundanese language.

The dialogue was enthralling, affording me the chance to interact with various religious communities in London. Moazzam Malik, the former British Ambassador to Indonesia and an initiator of the EFU in 2018, also graced the event with his presence. Needless to say, it was a fruitful and stimulating meeting.

As the evening descended upon London, we departed from the Parliament building and proceeded to the Minhajul Quran International office, our partner for the EFU activities. Despite the drizzle and biting cold, we traversed a considerable distance to reach the office. Following a tiring hour-long journey, we were treated to a delightful meal of Pakistani biryani and warm, enticing British tea. Our visit concluded with a tour of the Minhajul Quran office.

This day in London was replete with engaging meetings and novel experiences, leaving an indelible impression on all of us. As we continue our journey within the city, we eagerly anticipate further enriching encounters and opportunities.
