A Hidden Gem Near Preston: Our Experience at Guys Court Eating Establishment

Guys Court Eating Establishment, located in the vicinity of Preston, is a truly remarkable spot with a quaint, almost Beamish Museum ambiance. The thatched roofs, picturesque streets along the canal, and low beamed ceilings in the tavern create a delightful atmosphere for a leisurely pint in the afternoon or a weekend retreat. It’s a place that evokes a sense of nostalgia, and you can even catch a glimpse of it live on Freeview channel 276.

This spot has long been a popular choice for locals seeking a brief escape, a gathering spot, or a venue for special occasions. Nestled by the Garstang Canal, it offers an all-inclusive experience, complete with a pub and light bites, an Italian eatery, a variety of accommodations, and a delightful breakfast. It truly is the whole package.

Recently, we decided to visit Guys Court Eating Establishment for a birthday celebration, and it had been over 30 years since our last visit. To our surprise, not much had changed. The place had evolved and expanded, yet it had maintained its charm, which is likely why people continue to return time and time again.

However, back in February, the establishment faced a setback when it received a one-star rating from the Food Standards Agency. Our own disappointing meal a few weeks prior was not surprising. We were delighted to learn that it had managed to regain its four-star rating, and the quality of the food truly reflected this turnaround.

Our Saturday afternoon at Guys Court began with a couple of pints beneath the low ceilings and next to the fireplace of Owd Nells Tavern, creating a relaxed atmosphere. The executive room we had reserved, complete with a spa bath, was clean and cozy, although a little maintenance wouldn’t have hurt.

Dinner was absolutely delightful. The extensive menus, curated by head chef Vincenzo, took inspiration from his hometown of Napoli in the Campania region. The emphasis on fresh, seasonal, and local ingredients was evident in every dish. From starters like olives and calamari to main courses like lasagne, the quality was exceptional. We particularly adored Guys’ renowned stuffed garlic mushrooms and hot garlic bread.

The following morning, breakfast was equally impressive, and it was clear that Guys Court had managed to reclaim its former glory. The bustling establishment was a testament to its outstanding reputation, and we were thrilled to have rediscovered this hidden gem near Preston.

Our experience at Guys Court Eating Establishment proved that sometimes, a place doesn’t need to reinvent itself to stay relevant. Instead, it simply needs to stay true to what it does best. And in the case of Guys Court, that’s serving up delicious food and providing a charming, nostalgic setting for its patrons.
