Prepare yourself for a whirlwind of flavours! Taste Atlas has just unveiled their lineup of the finest culinary nations across the globe, and the revelations are sending ripples of excitement through our taste buds. Italy has snatched the prestigious number one spot, with Japan and Greece hot on its heels.
In a surprising turn of events, a Brazilian delicacy known as picanha, a succulent cut of beef, has been crowned the ultimate dish in the world. This accolade is based on 271,819 dish ratings and 80,863 food product ratings from the Taste Atlas Awards 2023/24. Although Italy and Japan boast identical average ratings, Italy has seized the top spot once more thanks to the highest-rated dish in their repertoire – pizza.
Rounding out the top five are Portugal in fourth place and China in fifth. For those curious about the standing of their own country, the U.S claimed the 16th spot, Australia landed at 50th place, and England, Scotland, and Wales secured the 39th, 47th, and 99th positions respectively. Indonesia, Mexico, France, Spain, and Peru complete the top ten lineup.
Astoundingly, not a single British dish managed to secure a spot on the list of the world’s 100 finest dishes. However, the United States did see one of their dishes make the grade, with boiled Maine lobster snagging the 78th position. Meanwhile, the top three best dishes belong to Malaysia, Thailand, and Italy, with the globally renowned roti canai, phat kophrao, and pizza Napoletana taking centre stage.
The unveiling of this list has sparked some contention among Taste Atlas’s nearly one million Facebook followers, with many sharing their thoughts on what should have made the cut. Some have toasted to the inclusion of their own country’s culinary delights, while others have been quick to point out conspicuous omissions.
While Taste Atlas has put in the groundwork to bring us these results, it’s evident that food is a profoundly personal experience and what one person deems to be a top 100 dish may vary greatly from another’s perspective. Let’s raise a glass to Taste Atlas for bringing these mouth-watering findings to our attention! After all, the real winners here are those fortunate enough to savor these delectable dishes from all corners of the world.
