The Finals Battle Pass: Too Much of a Time Sink for Players

The Finals Battle Pass has generated significant player feedback due to the extensive time and effort required to complete it.

The Finals has experienced a rapid increase in popularity, reaching 10 million players within just 15 days. However, many players are finding the progression through the Battle Pass to be exceedingly demanding. The Season 1 pass, which is active until March 12, consists of 96 levels with various cosmetic rewards and in-game currency. Players have observed that it can take over an hour to advance a single level, resulting in a total time commitment of over 100 hours.

Players have expressed their frustration on The Finals subreddit. Many believe that the current time requirement is unsustainable for the game, particularly due to the fact that weekly challenges do not carry over, making it nearly impossible to complete the Battle Pass without dedicating a substantial amount of time to the game.

There are calls for changes in the next season, with some players stating that they will not purchase the pass if the time commitment remains unchanged. Others are proposing a system similar to those in Apex Legends, Fortnite, and Halo, which offer more manageable time requirements. They suggest implementing a system where players can choose which pass to progress through, should they have multiple passes that are incomplete.

Conversely, there are players who support the current system, believing that more playtime equates to better value for money. They argue that the Battle Pass is an optional aspect of the gaming experience and it would be unsatisfying to complete it within the first month.

In addition to Battle Pass owners, high-ranking players are also struggling with the time commitment. During a live stream, one top player even fell asleep while trying to maintain their position on The Finals leaderboard.

Looking ahead to Season 2, developers at Embark Studios, the creator of The Finals, have not yet released a content roadmap. They are intent on only making promises that they can keep. Despite initial hesitation towards creating a shooter game, their team of Battlefield veterans ultimately pursued the genre.

The demand for a more reasonable time commitment in The Finals Battle Pass is evident. Whether the developers will address this concern in the upcoming season remains to be seen.
