PSG Decides Not to Buy Stade de France After All

The Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) football club has chosen to officially withdraw their candidacy to purchase or lease the Stade de France, as confirmed by a source close to the club and a report from Le Parisien.

Qatar Sports Investments (QSI), the owners of PSG, had previously shown strong interest in acquiring the stadium but ultimately did not submit an offer by the Wednesday deadline. The club’s decision was based on the belief that purchasing the Stade de France was not the most favorable option.

In addition to expressing interest in the stadium, PSG’s actions were seen as a way to apply pressure on Paris Mayor Anne Hidalgo to reopen discussions regarding the Parc des Princes, the club’s home venue. With the Stade de France no longer being considered, PSG has indicated that they have additional projects in progress to further develop the club. This includes plans to acquire and renovate the Parc des Princes, as well as the construction of a new 70,000-seat stadium in the Île-de-France region.

Regarding the Stade de France, other potential buyers, such as the Vinci-Bouygues consortium and event company GL Events, led by Olivier Ginon, continue to keep a low profile and remain in the running for the concession and sale.
