Greetings to all Denver residents, it’s time to dig out your winter gear and prepare for a flurry of snow heading your way over the next few days. The coming weekend looks set to be a wintry wonderland as the Denver metro area braces for some chilly and snowy conditions.
The National Weather Service (NWS) in Boulder has issued warnings of several rounds of light snow, starting from Thursday evening. As the first round of snowfall makes its appearance, areas south of Denver, particularly along the I-25 corridor, may experience some light snow. The mountains, foothills, and eastern plains of Colorado are also likely to see slight accumulations during this spell of wintry weather.
Meteorologist Lisa Hidalgo predicts that the evening commute might become a bit tricky as light snowfall could make roads slippery, especially in the southern and southeastern parts of the metro area towards the Palmer Divide. However, she assures that the snowfall totals won’t be particularly heavy. A second round of light snow is expected late Friday into early Saturday, so be prepared to wake up to a snow-covered landscape.
Winter weather advisories are in place for various areas, with predictions of snow accumulations of 2 to 5 inches in certain counties, which will likely impact travel conditions. Despite the lighter snowfall expected in the Denver metro area, higher accumulations may occur to the south and along I-70.
As we head into the weekend, a more substantial storm is on the horizon, bringing with it the possibility of heavier snowfall across Colorado. This storm is anticipated to move from the high country down across the Front Range, creating the potential for slightly higher snow totals in some regions.
As the snow continues to fall, Denver and the surrounding areas may see between 2 and 3 inches of accumulation by Monday. The NWS assures us that the overall impact on travel and road conditions will be minimal, but it’s best to be cautious during the Monday morning commute.
The snowfall is an attempt to catch up with the season’s snowfall averages, as meteorologist Stacey Donaldson mentions that Denver should have had 27 inches of snow by the end of January, but has only received 11.8 inches so far. The weather patterns also bring with them colder-than-average temperatures, hovering in the upper 30s during the day and dipping to the upper teens overnight.
So, residents of Denver, gear up and get ready for a snowy adventure ahead. Let’s all stay safe, keep warm, and embrace the winter wonderland that’s coming our way. Cheers to a magical and snowy weekend!
