Get Ready for a Weather Rollercoaster Ride

Ladies and gents, grab hold of your hats because we are about to embark on an exhilarating weather adventure in the coming week or two. With a series of disturbances, frigid air, and storm systems making their way towards us, we are in for some truly dramatic weather. And just when you think it couldn’t get any more intense, the coldest air of the season is preparing to make a grand entrance for the latter part of next week.

It all begins with the chance of fog on Thursday night into Friday morning, so be prepared for limited visibility and potentially slippery surfaces. Friday will be overcast and chilly, with temperatures ranging from the mid to upper 20s in the morning to the mid to upper 30s in the afternoon. And dust off your snow boots because there’s potential for snow in Western Nebraska, with up to 2 inches of accumulation and a light coating of ice. Central and Eastern Nebraska may also experience a mix of rain, snow, or possible snow on Friday afternoon into early Saturday, with a chance of up to 1 inch of snow and a light glaze of ice.

After navigating through Friday, Saturday brings the possibility of lingering snow in Eastern Nebraska, as well as a 20% chance of flurries and light snow showers in the afternoon and evening. But fear not, as the snow accumulation is expected to be minimal, so no need to bring out the snow shovel just yet.

Heading into Sunday, the morning will be partially to mostly cloudy, transitioning to mostly cloudy in the afternoon. High temperatures will linger around the 30s, with dry conditions expected through the morning and afternoon. However, as the evening approaches, the chance of precipitation begins to increase once again. A potent storm system and upper-level trough are on the horizon, expected to sweep through the region from Sunday night to Tuesday morning, bringing the potential for a mix of rain, wintry weather, and snow. From late Monday morning to early Tuesday morning, snow is likely to cover the eastern half of the area, with the possibility of light to moderate accumulation. Hold onto your hats, as strong winds could also be in the forecast.

But wait, there’s more! Another cold front and upper-level disturbance are poised to impact the area late Wednesday into Thursday, ushering in the coldest air of the season thus far. Brace yourself for temperatures well below average for early January as we approach next weekend. And just when you thought the weather rollercoaster had ended, another storm system may be on the horizon for Saturday and Sunday, January 13th and 14th, bringing another chance of snow.

So, buckle up, keep those winter coats at the ready, and prepare for a spellbinding weather rollercoaster that is sure to keep us all on edge. And to stay informed about all the latest weather developments, be sure to subscribe to our 10/11 NOW daily digest and breaking news alerts.
