Get your winter gear ready and prepare to carve out some snow angels because it seems like Massachusetts is in for a hefty snowfall this weekend! After a couple of gentle winters, plow drivers across the state are gearing up and eagerly anticipating the chance to finally put their shovels to good use.
Jacob Holyoke, a leading figure in the snow removal industry, is no stranger to the struggle. He’s been idly waiting, watching his trucks gather dust during the past few lacklustre winters. Now, he’s keeping his fingers crossed that this upcoming snowfall will make up for lost time.
In Bridgewater, Kevin Godek has three trucks all fired up and prepared to hit the roads on Sunday. After a dry spell, the phone is finally ringing off the hook with clients seeking his services. But Godek can’t help but feel a lingering uncertainty, hoping that Mother Nature won’t play a last-minute trick on him.
And let’s not overlook Worcester, which is bracing for a substantial blanket of the white stuff. However, there’s a twist – there has been a shortage of plow drivers since the arrival of Covid. Jay Fink, the city’s DPW commissioner, is appealing for a bit more patience with the clean-up effort.
“We’re probably about 10 percent short of where we were before Covid came and disrupted everything. All that means is it’s going to take us a little longer to get the job done,” explained Commissioner Fink.
So, it appears that Massachusetts’ plow drivers are gearing up to face whatever snowstorm comes their way. It’s been quite an unpredictable journey, but they’re hopeful to make up for lost time and keep the streets clear for everyone to relish the winter wonderland.
For now, all we can do is keep our fingers crossed and hope that this snowfall is the one we’ve been eagerly awaiting. And who knows, perhaps it will be the perfect excuse to snuggle up with a hot chocolate and admire the snowy spectacle from indoors.
Stay warm, stay safe, and let’s welcome that snow with open arms!
