Winter Wonderland Weekend in Oregon Cascades

Hello snow enthusiasts! If you’ve been eagerly anticipating a generous snowfall in the Oregon Cascades, then you’re in luck! The heavy mountain snow is poised to make a spectacular return this weekend, promising a breathtaking sight to behold.

You see, December brought an abundance of rain to Oregon, but the higher temperatures prevented it from transforming into the beloved white snow we all long for. By early January, the snowpack in the Cascades was a mere 40% of what it should be. But fear not, because this weekend is about to change everything!

According to the National Weather Service, the ski resorts are in for a treat. We’re expecting not just inches, but feet of snow! It’s going to be a true winter wonderland, with 12 to 24 inches of snow forecasted at popular spots like Timberline or Mt. Hood Meadows. And here’s the exciting part – the snow level will drop to between 2,000 and 4,000 feet, so even the mountain passes will be dusted with snow. It’s going to be a scene straight out of a postcard, but remember to check road conditions and prepare for some winter travel if you’re heading that way.

But the thrill doesn’t end there! If you’re planning a weekend escape to the Cascades, get ready to witness accumulating snow above 2500 feet, with around 1 foot or more of snow on the horizon. Winter weather advisories are in effect for the Cascades in Lane County and Southern Oregon from late Friday through late Saturday. And let’s not forget about the areas below 2,000 feet, which are likely to experience steady rain through the weekend and into early next week.

But hold on, there’s more good news! After this weekend, there’s a chance of the region cooling down as another weather system moves in. This could mean even more snow the following weekend. So stay tuned to the forecast if you’ve got plans.

And speaking of the snowpack, there’s still time to catch up if the winter weather delivers as promised. The ideal time for a seasonal snowpack is by March and early April, and there’s hope that things will get much closer to average over the next few weeks. So, if you’ve been itching to hit the slopes, get ready, because the next couple of weeks are set to bring some much-needed snow to the ski resorts.

All in all, it seems like we’re in for an unforgettable, snow-filled adventure this weekend, and possibly the weekends to come. So, gear up, stay safe, and prepare to immerse yourself in the enchanting winter wonderland of the Oregon Cascades!
