Get Ready for Snow: Centre County Braces for First Big Snowfall of the Season

Well, hello there, everyone! If you happen to be living in Central Pennsylvania, then buckle up because it seems like we’re in for our inaugural hefty snowstorm of the season. As per AccuWeather’s Senior Meteorologist Tom Kines, Centre County is poised to be draped with a substantial 4 to 8 inches of snow from Saturday afternoon right through to Sunday morning. It appears that we are in for quite the snowfall, doesn’t it?

Before you start fretting about the tedious task of shovelling all that snow, Kines does bring some welcome news. He mentioned that it is likely to be a dry snow, which is far easier to manage compared to the heavy, wet variety. This means we won’t be breaking our backs trying to shift it around. However, don’t get too comfortable, as these snowy conditions will certainly result in some treacherous travel.

Kines has cautioned that travelling will be slow and tricky, especially come Saturday afternoon and evening. So, if you had plans to hit the road, you might want to reconsider or mentally prepare yourself for a slow journey. Nevertheless, there is a silver lining as things are expected to improve by Sunday as the storm moves away. Although there may still be some snow showers, Sunday might present a better day for travel compared to Saturday. Let’s stay hopeful for smooth travels ahead.

With thousands of Penn State students making their way back to State College this weekend for the start of the spring semester, it looks like the storm might cause some disruptions to their travel plans. And with the added news of another winter storm looming early next week, things are certainly shaping up to be quite chaotic.

Speaking of the upcoming week, Kines mentioned that we should keep an eye out for another storm, potentially on Tuesday. However, don’t worry too much about this one – it looks like it will be warmer with less snow in the forecast. Nevertheless, there may still be some snow or ice initially before transitioning over to rain. Let’s hope it doesn’t cause too much trouble.

It’s worth noting that we haven’t seen much snow so far this winter in State College, with only 0.7 inches recorded by the National Weather Service. It appears that we’re in for a taste of what winter truly has in store before it’s all said and done.

So, there you have it, everyone – get ready to welcome the snow and all the excitement it brings. From shovelling to snowball fights and everything in between, it seems like we’re in for an eventful weekend. Stay safe out there, and let’s hope for some splendid winter wonderland scenes to enjoy!
