An incident of sexual assault occurred at Trocadéro in Paris on the night of December 30th, involving a 25-year-old Afghan man who forcibly kissed a 7-year-old girl. The man, heavily intoxicated, was quickly arrested and tried in immediate appearance for “sexual assault on a minor under 15 by an adult, with an age difference of at least 5 years”. He has been sentenced to 30 months in prison, with 18 months to be served, and ordered to undergo treatment for his alcohol addiction. Additionally, he is required to pay a fine of 1,000 euros in moral damages to the victim. The prosecution had requested a 2 and a half year prison sentence.

During the trial, the defendant claimed not to remember the events and expressed shock at the accusations against him. The girl’s father expressed his relief that “justice has been served”.
