What’s Up with Xbox in 2024 – A Look at the Year Ahead

The Xbox Series X and S are no longer considered new, as we are now in the fourth year of the eight-year console generation. A leaked roadmap from Microsoft’s legal team has provided insight into what can be expected in the year 2024.

In 2023, there was a sense of urgency among Xbox owners, especially after the mixed reviews for Starfield. However, the outlook has improved with the release of the award-nominated rhythm-action game, Hi-Fi Rush, and Microsoft’s successful acquisition of Activision-Blizzard-King. Additionally, the Xbox Game Pass continues to gain popularity. This momentum is expected to carry into 2024.

For third-party exclusives, STALKER 2: Heart of Chornobyl, a AAA FPS sequel, is anticipated to be released in the first quarter of 2024. Replaced, a cyberpunk-style, pixel-art action-adventure game, is also generating excitement as an Xbox exclusive. Square Enix’s highly anticipated RPG, Visions of Mana, is also set to be available on Xbox simultaneously with its release on PlayStation.

In-house games from Microsoft’s own studios are also expected to make an impact in 2024. Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2, running on Unreal Engine 5, is coming close to release and promises a visually stunning and emotionally charged experience. Avowed, a first-person fantasy RPG set in Obsidian’s Pillars of Eternity RPG universe, is also anticipated. Additionally, Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 will provide an immersive experience for aviation enthusiasts.

Furthermore, there are potential announcements for MachineGames’ Indiana Jones project, Arkane’s Marvel’s Blade, Gears of War 6, Doom: Year Zero, and Double Fine’s upcoming game.

It is important to note that all the games mentioned will be available on the Xbox Game Pass at launch. There is also a possibility of adding more games from Activision and Blizzard to the lineup. In terms of hardware, rumors suggest an Xbox Series X refresh in the fall, along with a new controller featuring haptic feedback and a rechargeable battery.

With a growing lineup of studios and games, the future looks promising for Xbox gamers. The year 2024 is expected to bring a host of exciting new releases, and the Xbox community can look forward to an eventful and dynamic year ahead.
