Versailles: The Most Sought-After Airbnb Destination for the 2024 Paris Olympics

In a study conducted by Airbnb from January 1, 2023, to September 30, 2023, for trips between July 26 and August 11, 2024, it was found that Versailles emerged as the most popular destination for the 2024 Olympic Games. The city boasts several Olympic sites, serving as the venue for equestrian events, modern pentathlon events, and the Olympic marathon. It is also conveniently located between Paris and Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines, which feature 4 Olympic sites, making Versailles an attractive destination for travelers.

Despite a limited number of Airbnb listings remaining in Paris, there are approximately a dozen available in Versailles, offering a variety of options from a studio apartment for €144 a night to a villa with a garden and pool accommodating up to 8 guests for €1400 a night. In Paris, while there are roughly twice as many offerings, they tend to be smaller in size. Prices in Paris have surged to an average of €1033 per night, significantly higher than the normal average of €317, indicating the demand for alternative accommodations such as Airbnb.

Local hosts in Versailles are also seizing the opportunity presented by the surge in demand for accommodation during the Olympics. For example, Fabienne Costa has doubled the prices for her apartment in Clayes-sous-Bois from the usual rate of €60 per night to €130 per night, even offering breakfast and sandwiches for lunch. Costa attributes Versailles’ popularity to its offerings, including its enchanting forest, historic palace, and magical atmosphere that captivates the hearts of many travelers.
