The Eiffel Tower in Paris is currently closed to the public due to a strike, as announced by the operating company of the Eiffel Tower (SETE). This closure coincides with the centenary of Gustave Eiffel’s death, and a commemorative show is scheduled to take place on Wednesday evening, featuring a performance by Michael Canitrot, along with a light show involving various guest artists.
The strike was initiated by the tower’s employees to challenge the current management of SETE, citing concerns about the monument’s construction budgets being undervalued and revenue projections being overestimated. Despite setting a record of nearly 5.9 million visitors in 2022, the union asserts that the monument requires significant maintenance and restoration work, leading to an estimated cost increase of 128 million euros since 2019.
Given the closure of the Eiffel Tower, there is uncertainty surrounding the status of the planned show. No official announcement has been made thus far regarding its holding or cancellation.
