Several organizations and unions are preparing to demonstrate on Sunday, January 14th in Paris to oppose the immigration law passed by the Parliament on December 19th.
This event will mark the first major mobilization of the year and is anticipated to be the largest protest against this immigration law.
Participating in the rally are associations advocating for undocumented immigrants, as well as France Terre d’Asile, the League of Human Rights, and the Federation of Solidarity Actors, along with unions such as the CGT and Solidaires. The participation of the CFDT is still unconfirmed, despite the statement of mobilization against this law by the largest union in France.
From a political perspective, the socialists, communists, environmentalists, and the “insoumis” have all confirmed their involvement in this march.
The organizers of this protest have a dual objective: to demonstrate popular mobilization while awaiting the decision of the Constitutional Council, and to hope for the withdrawal of the law and its non-promulgation even after the Council’s decision.
Compared to the pension protests, some participants anticipate less mobilization due to the absence of a large demonstration before the law was passed. However, organizers are hopeful due to the Sunday scheduling, broader understanding of the law’s content, and the circumstances of its adoption.
In conclusion, the planned protest in Paris is expected to draw attention to the immigration law and demonstrate popular opposition to it. The participation of various organizations and political groups highlights the significance of this issue. The outcome of this demonstration and its potential impact on the fate of the immigration law remain to be seen.
