Is Firmino ready to bid farewell to Saudi Arabia and rejoin Liverpool?

After only six months in Saudi Arabia, whispers are swirling that Roberto Firmino is desperate to leave Al-Ahli in January. The ex-Liverpool hotshot made a smashing start, bagging a hat-trick on debut. But alas, he’s been as elusive as the Loch Ness Monster in his last nine league matches and has mostly been warming the bench with six substitute appearances.

To say that the 32-year-old is as happy as a cat in a bath would be an understatement. Rumour has it he’s looking for a way out once the transfer window opens. His top pick? A return to Europe or even a kickabout in Brazil.

But hold the phone! The Daily Mirror has hinted that hanging around in Saudi Arabia might also be an option, with whispers going around that both Al-Fateh and Al-Ettifaq are keen to make a deal. And to sprinkle a bit of excitement into the mix, the latter team is led by none other than Steven Gerrard, who has already brought fellow former Reds Jordan Henderson and Gini Wijnaldum to his squad.

When asked about the chance of recruiting Firmino, Gerrard raved, “I obviously know Bobby extremely well, I’ve been a massive fan. I’ve followed him for years. At the moment, he’s Al-Ahli’s player, so it’s very difficult for me to comment on that situation. But I’ve loved Bobby Firmino since the first day I watched him and I’m a huge fan.”

As for Al-Ettifaq’s performance in the Saudi Pro League, it’s safe to say they haven’t exactly been setting the world on fire. Currently, they’re a whopping 26 points behind league leaders Al-Hilal after 18 matches. With Firmino’s potential addition, could he be the game-changer they desperately need?

Only time will tell where Firmino will end up, but fans are certainly on the edge of their seats waiting to see if a Liverpool reunion is on the horizon. Will the Brazilian forward be saying “Adios” to Saudi Arabia and “alright, mate” to his old stomping grounds at Anfield once more? Grab the popcorn and let’s wait for the fireworks to start!
