Get Your Brollies Ready: Weekend Soaker Forecasted for Liverpool

Well, well, well, Liverpool! Looks like Mother Nature is planning to give us a good old drenching just in time for New Year’s Eve. The Met Office has given us the heads up that we’re in for some serious downpours, so it might be a good idea to stock up on brollies and wellies. Who knows, we might end up doing the rain dance instead of the countdown on Friday night!

So, the weather gurus have issued a yellow weather warning for Merseyside because of Storm Gerrit. But don’t worry, we’re not in for “challenging conditions” – just some good old damp and blustery weather. Looks like 2023 is going out with a splash, not a bang!

According to the forecast, the last few days of 2023 are going to be pretty unsettled, with strong winds and maybe even a sprinkle of snow in certain parts of the UK. It looks like an area of low pressure will be the star of the show this weekend, swooping in from the west to rain on our parade.

So, what’s on the menu for Saturday’s weather feast? Heavy rain to kick off the day, followed by a gloomy overcast sky and some hearty winds by late morning. By lunchtime, we can expect winds of up to 35mph and a drizzly afternoon. But hey, at least it won’t be freezing out there, with temperatures hovering around a mild 10 degrees. It’s like Mother Nature’s giving us a wet and wild party to end the year!

The Met Office has also hinted at the possibility of snow across higher ground in the north of England and Scotland, thanks to a “deep area of low pressure” making its way across the country. But fear not, the heavy rain won’t be as intense as during Storm Gerrit. Phew, we dodged a bullet there!

Looking ahead into 2024, the weather forecast seems a bit up in the air. Nick Silkstone, the Met Office Deputy Chief Forecaster, mentioned a possible shift in the weather pattern with more settled and colder conditions on the horizon. So while we might be in for a soaking this weekend, who knows what surprises the New Year has in store for us? It’s like the weather is planning its own party tricks!
