The Normal Community High School girls basketball team showcased their dominance once again with a 56-48 victory over Taylorville in the quarterfinals of the State Farm Holiday Classic’s Large School Girls bracket. With a 15-1 record, the Iron will advance to the semifinals, where they will face Washington on Friday at 7 p.m. at Shirk Center.
Olivia Corson led the charge for NCHS, contributing 14 points to the team’s victory, while Allie Rustemeyer added 10 more. The team’s strong performance was evident as they secured a 50-33 lead after three quarters, ultimately clinching the game.
On the other hand, the No. 4 seed Washington team secured a decisive 60-35 win over Bloomington. Mazzy O’Brien led the way with an impressive 22 points, securing their spot in the next round of the tournament. Crissiana Rose put up a commendable effort for Bloomington, leading her team with 10 points.
In the Small School Girls bracket, Camp Point Central/Augusta Southeastern showcased their talent with a 60-26 victory over Olympia, partly thanks to Lauren Miller’s impressive 23-point contribution. Olympia, led by Hannah Cleveland with nine points, fought hard but ultimately fell short.
Meanwhile, Galena emerged victorious with a 59-41 win over Central Catholic, as Gracie Furlong’s outstanding 27-point performance propelled her team to success. Lauren Emm and Logan Shanks led the charge for Central Catholic with 12 and 10 points respectively, but it wasn’t enough to overcome Galena’s dominant display.
As the tournament continues, it’s evident that each team is bringing their A-game to the court, and the competition is heating up. Fans and enthusiasts can expect more nail-biting action as these talented athletes battle it out for supremacy on the basketball court.
