Paris is preparing for its New Year’s Eve celebration with a significant increase in security measures. Laurent Nunez, the police prefect of Paris, revealed that 6,000 police officers and gendarmes will be deployed to ensure the safety of the expected 1-1.5 million attendees on the Champs-Elysées.
Due to the large crowd, an extensive surveillance plan will be in place, extending from the Champs-Elysées to the avenue de la Grande-Armée and the Place de la Concorde. The heightened security measures include designated entry points with thorough searches, additional police presence around the Champ de Mars and the Trocadéro, and gendarmerie helicopters patrolling the Parisian suburbs.
The authorities are also imposing regulations on alcohol consumption, with a ban on alcohol and confiscation of glass bottles within the celebration perimeter. The sale of takeaway alcohol, firecrackers, and fireworks will also be prohibited.
Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin has emphasized the “systematic arrest” of anyone causing trouble and highlighted the unprecedented mobilization of law enforcement, particularly in Paris.
Attendees should be prepared for a secure and enjoyable New Year’s Eve celebration in Paris, as the authorities are focused on ensuring a safe and festive event.
