QPR Manager Marti Cifuentes has expressed disappointment in the lacklustre performance of his team in their recent match against Millwall. The 2-0 loss marks their third consecutive defeat, placing them in the relegation zone, with Huddersfield’s victory further exacerbating their predicament by leaving them five points from safety.
Cifuentes did not hold back in his assessment, deeming the performance “poor” and possibly the worst since assuming his role. The match witnessed Tom Bradshaw scoring just before half-time and Murray Wallace adding another goal late in the game following a mistake by Asmir Begovic.
The first goal from Millwall arose when George Saville found space on the left of the penalty area and set up Bradshaw for a straightforward finish. The second goal occurred when Begovic failed to deal with a left-wing corner, allowing Wallace to capitalize on the error and score.
Despite enjoying a substantial amount of possession, QPR struggled to create impactful scoring opportunities, with forward Lyndon Dykes notably failing to pose a significant threat to the opposition’s defence.
Cifuentes acknowledged their lacklustre start to the game and commended Millwall’s aggressive high press. He conceded that QPR failed to find a means to counteract the pressure and exploit the space behind the opponent’s defensive line. He lamented the team’s failure to generate effective runs from behind, which could have posed a more potent threat to Millwall’s defence.
Upon reflection, Cifuentes underscored the team’s enhanced comprehension of the game after the 30th-minute mark. Nevertheless, he expressed frustration at conceding a goal just before half-time, asserting that it should have been prevented.
The outcome of the match undeniably raises concerns for QPR, particularly given their current position in the league table. Cifuentes and his team face a formidable challenge in their efforts to evade relegation, necessitating a substantial improvement in their forthcoming fixtures.
