Giving Thanks to Sweden Food Pantry Heroes

In the last month, the Sweden Food Pantry (SFP) has been overwhelmed with the outpouring of love and support from generous donors. It’s as if Santa himself has made an early visit, bringing unexpected gifts to brighten their days.

Perhaps the most heart-warming surprise arrived in the form of an anonymous donation from a benevolent soul, seeking to assist four families with a generous gift of £400. And the generosity didn’t stop there, as Errol Smith from Smith’s Homestead of Stow decided to add an extra £100 to the pot. This money was put to good use in reducing the cost of ground meat provided by Smith’s Homestead to the Sweden Food Pantry. It’s truly amazing how a small act of generosity can have such a big impact on those in need.

But it wasn’t just financial support that came their way. The SFP also received a much-needed safety upgrade in the form of a new porch for the lower-level door where participants collect their groceries. Thanks to the skilled hands of Crowell Construction of Harrison, the new porch ensures that everyone is safe from falling snow and ice, adding a touch of security and warmth to their visits.

And to top it all off, the SFP received a resiliency grant facilitated by the Good Shepard Food Bank, which allowed them to acquire new school-style cafeteria tables, bright yellow winter gear, and hand warmers for volunteer transporters. These new additions not only provide convenience for volunteer and board meetings but also create extra space and comfort during the distribution of produce.

The volunteers and board members of the Sweden Food Pantry are overflowing with gratitude for all the generous donations, big and small. If you’re feeling the same spirit of generosity, you can make a gift online at https://swedenfoodpantry.org/ or by simply mailing a check to 137 Bridgton Road, Sweden, ME 04040.

And if you find yourself in need of their assistance, the Sweden Food Pantry is open on the first and third Wednesday of each month from 10-1 and serves multiple towns including Bridgton, Fryeburg, Harrison, Lovell, Stoneham, Stow, Sweden, and Waterford. No eligible family is turned away, so don’t hesitate to reach out for help if you need it.

Let’s all take a moment to celebrate the wonderful work being done by the Sweden Food Pantry and their incredible support system. Whether it’s a small donation or a grand gesture, every little bit counts in making a difference in the lives of those in need. After all, a little kindness goes a long way in making the world a better place.
