In an unexpected development, a declaration of support for the AMIN presidential and vice-presidential candidate duo, Anies Baswedan and Abdul Muhaimin Iskandar, also known as Cak Imin, took place at Madura Kitchen in London, UK. This declaration was announced by the team of volunteers supporting the AMIN candidates in the upcoming 2024 presidential elections.
The event, which took place on Tuesday (26/12/2023), not only involved the declaration of support but also hosted a gathering of the AMIN volunteer team. One of the distinguished speakers at the event was Imam Shamsi Ali, a religious leader and interfaith activist from New York City, USA. This gathering provided an opportunity for members of the Muslim community in London to come together and engage in dialogue with Imam Shamsi Ali, and also included the official declaration of the volunteer support team and a religious lecture.
The purpose of this gathering was to inspire and motivate supporters of AMIN in the UK. Over 50 representatives from various cities in the UK were in attendance, representing four well-coordinated volunteer groups. Among the attendees were representatives of the PKS party, a supporting party for the AMIN candidates in the UK.
Despite the impromptu nature of the event, Ummi Arfah, the Coordinator of the Combined AMIN Volunteer Team, stated, “Although this event was organized at short notice due to the unexpected arrival of Ustaz Shamsi Ali, the enthusiasm of the volunteer team was remarkably high. More than 60 individuals registered overnight, but due to space limitations, only 50 participants were able to attend.”
During his 45-minute lecture, Shamsi Ali emphasized that the support of Indonesians living abroad is a demonstration of their love for their nation and country. He also emphasized the importance of supporting candidates with the capability and integrity to bring new hope to the nation.
Imam Shamsi Ali reminded the audience of their fundamental intention as Muslims, urging all efforts to support AMIN’s victory to be dedicated as a form of worship to Allah through their nation and country.
This unexpected declaration of support for the AMIN candidate duo in London is a significant representation of the widespread impact and involvement of Indonesians abroad in shaping the future of their homeland, as the AMIN campaign gains momentum in the lead-up to the 2024 presidential elections.
