Art Dealer Johann König Set to Unveil New Berlin Gallery

Exciting news from Berlin, where the renowned art dealer Johann König is gearing up to unveil a stunning new gallery! Set to throw open its doors tomorrow in a prime location – a former telegraph office adjacent to the city’s Museum Island and Monbijou Park on Oranienburgerstrasse.

This sensational new venture marks König’s second gallery in Berlin and stands as one of his most ambitious projects since weathering serious allegations of misconduct in 2022. These accusations wreaked havoc on the gallery, resulting in the departure of several artists from its roster and a disinvitation from numerous high-profile events. Unfazed, König is pursuing legal action against the German outlet Die Zeit, seeking retribution for the turmoil they caused.

The site of the new gallery, formerly a telegraph office, has undergone a breathtaking transformation. Beyond serving as a gallery, it also boasts a hotel and restaurant on the premises. Nestled amongst esteemed neighbours such as Google and Fotografiska, it exudes an aura of innovation and creativity.

The inaugural exhibition at this remarkable venue will showcase the work of painter Karl Horst Hödicke, a founding figure of the Neue Wilde movement in the early 1980s. These artists were renowned for their use of vibrant colours and bold, sweeping brushstrokes in their art.

König’s initial gallery was established in the historic Brutalist church of St. Agnes back in 2015. But his vision extends beyond Berlin, with a presence in Seoul and plans underway for a new location in Mexico City by February 2025.

How inspiring it is that Johann König is infusing art and culture into these extraordinary spaces, providing people with the opportunity to witness truly remarkable work and bask in the ambiance of these incredible new galleries. The prospect of witnessing the exceptional art and energy emanating from this new space and its impact on Berlin’s art scene is truly captivating.
